Wayfarers Ransom Piece

I'm excited to announce that I'm going to part of a group show with about 250 other people in November.  Wayfarers, a studio in Brooklyn, is putting together a clever group show called Ransom.

Remember those notes made up of cut up newspaper and magazine clippings?  (For some examples see here.) This is the base of this show.  Every artist was given a word in a 250 word story.  They could render it however they wanted to as long as it was hangable on a wall and no larger than 8.5" x 11".  At the show all 250 words will be placed on the wall in order and the note will be revealed.

This was really exciting because when I signed up for the show I had no idea what word I was going to receive.  In August I received my word "or".  I brainstormed many ways in which I could illustrate this word and decided to do an acrylic painting of a seal saying "or".  I love sea creatures and thought that this piece could later be used on it's own, and not just within the context of the show (possibly within a child's room).

The show opens Saturday November 9th at Wayfarers, 1109 DeKalb Ave., Brooklyn NY 11221 and it will be up through December 1st.  I'm really excited to see the whole story and see how everyone interpreted their words. I will post photos from the show and how my word interacts with the words around it.
